Where this business started.
City and Guilds carpentry underneath everything we build, and bespoke fitted work when you want it.
Thirteen years of carpentry, applied to whole buildings.
Harman Building and Carpentry started as carpentry, and that is still the trade the rest of the work is built on. First fix, second fix, roofs, floors, staircases, doors, fitted furniture and period joinery.
It matters more than it sounds. Carpentry is the trade that has to absorb everybody else’s tolerances. If the brickwork is out, the plaster is thick and the floor is not level, it is the carpenter who has to make it look deliberate at the end.
Which is exactly why a carpenter running the whole job tends to produce a better finish than a manager who has never had to.

Made for the room, not for a box.
Nothing in an old house is square, and nothing in a flat pack allows for that. Fitted joinery made on site or made to a template of the actual opening will always sit better than something ordered to a nominal size.
Alcoves, awkward corners, sloping ceilings and chimney breasts are the places fitted work earns its money.
- Templated to the real opening, not a nominal size
- Matched to existing mouldings and profiles
- Painted and finished on site
- Ironmongery fitted and adjusted properly
The parts that decide whether it lasts.
First fix
Floors, studwork, roof structure and the openings everything else depends on.
Second fix
Doors, architrave, skirting, ironmongery. The parts you touch every day.
Bespoke fitted
Alcove units, wardrobes, media walls and studies, made to the actual room rather than to a catalogue.
Period restoration
Matching mouldings, repairing rather than replacing, and making new work sit next to hundred year old work.
From the first call to the final sign off.
Call
You tell us what you are thinking. We tell you straight away whether it is something we do and roughly what it costs.
Visit
We come and look properly. Walls, floors, access, drainage, the things that decide the real price.
Written price
A clear breakdown of what is included, what is not, and what the unknowns are. No pressure and no chasing.
Build
One team, one number, and a start date we keep to. You always know who is on site and what is happening next.
Sign off
Building control where it applies, snagging closed out fast, and we are still contactable afterwards.
Tell us what you are planning.
Whether it is a wall coming down or a whole house coming back to life, the first step is the same. A conversation, then a visit, then a written price you can actually rely on.
